NAME: Dodola
Project: Water – Designing a Biovernacular; (Biennial of design) Bio 27
YEAR:2022
CILENT: Mao – Museum for architecture and design, Ljubljana
The project focuses on water purification in areas with inadequate or deficient public water supply. About 20% of Slovenians lack access to public water, and even those who do often prefer water from other natural sources. The Dodola filter combines vernacular materials and practices, natural and physical phenomena, and modern manufacturing processes. Crafted from a mixture of clay and organic substances, the modules effectively remove pollutants from the water. The gyroid structure, enhancing water filtration by increasing the available surface area of the module, is created using 3D printing technology with clay. Adhering to vernacular principles, Dodola operates autonomously, enabling functionality in remote locations without access to electrical power.
